In speaking with Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt this week, The Ronkonkoma Civic Association has been informed that the Islip Town Board voted unanimously to approve a $200,000.00 streetscape project for Johnson Avenue between Sycamore Avenue and Pond Road. The plan will include tree plantings, some sidewalk improvements, asthetic upgrades and perhaps some lamp posts. Trish also wrote a letter to New York State asking for additional funds to try to increase the number from $200,000.00 upward. As for the $200,000.00, it will be available in a few months at which time Trish will be reaching out to the Ronkonkoma Civic Association (RCA-ISLIP) where she will come back to the table and help with design ideas.
In early February 2013, Larry Farrell (RCA-ISLIP Board Member) presented a proposal he wrote to Tom Croci (Town Of Islip Supervisor) named “The Main Street Project” which outlined the need for an improved identity including a ”Main Street” Plan. This plan was also presented in January 2013 to the Lakeland Fire Department Commissioners and RCA-ISLIP members with a high level of acceptance and enthusiasm. The hard work, dedication and shared vision of the RCA-ISLIP over the past 2 years showed the town board that Ronkonkoma-Islip residents care for and will stand up for their community. The RCA board is thankful to the Islip Town board for their continued support.
