RCA-ISLIP Past President Appointed To Islip Community Development Agency

rca sr islipOn Tuesday April 23, 2013 Steven Raccuglia, Past President of the Ronkonkoma Civic Association has been appointed to Islip’s Community Development Agency.

It’s a great thing how the entire board of the Town Of Islip has participated in the concerns of the RCA and this is a perfect example of that.

For years, Ronkonkoma has been overlooked as a community, today Ronkonkoma is back on the map!  “Let’s Save The Neighborhood” a quote Steven says often of his childhood town.

RCA-ISLIP Proposal Has Been Approved For $200,000 As Street-Scape Project !

 March 22, 2013 Ronkonkoma, NY 11779

In speaking with Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt this week, The Ronkonkoma Civic Association has been informed that the Islip Town Board voted unanimously to approve a $200,000.00 streetscape project for Johnson Avenue between Sycamore Avenue and Pond Road.  The plan will include tree plantings, some sidewalk improvements, asthetic upgrades and perhaps some lamp posts.  Trish also wrote a letter to New York State asking for additional funds to try to increase the number from $200,000.00 upward.   As for the $200,000.00, it will be available in a few months at which time Trish will be reaching out to the Ronkonkoma Civic Association (RCA-ISLIP) where she will come back to the table and help with design ideas.

In early February 2013, Larry Farrell (RCA-ISLIP Board Member) presented a proposal he wrote to Tom Croci (Town Of Islip Supervisor) named “The Main Street Project” which outlined the need for an improved identity including a ”Main Street” Plan. This plan was also presented in January 2013 to the Lakeland Fire Department Commissioners and RCA-ISLIP members with a high level of acceptance and enthusiasm.  The hard work, dedication and shared vision of the RCA-ISLIP over the past 2 years showed the town board that Ronkonkoma-Islip residents care for and will stand up for their community. The RCA board is thankful to the Islip Town board for their continued support.

Ronkonkoma Holds It’s Largest Civic Meeting

The Ronkonkoma Civic Association (RCA-ISLIP) held the largest meeting (2.25.13) in it’s 2 year history.  New memberships jumped and the room was buzzing with concern of a project this community knew very little about. Residents were there to attend the presentation on the upcoming Ronkonkoma Hub Project and the presentation from the MTA LIRR on their Double Track Project.

Many people right next to the tracks are affected, while the entire community could be affected by the rail crossing at Ocean Ave.

The RCA-ISLIP board will be meeting with Tritec, the Brookhaven developer to discuss topics for the RCA’s next meeting.
