On Tuesday April 23, 2013 Steven Raccuglia, Past President of the Ronkonkoma Civic Association has been appointed to Islip’s Community Development Agency.
It’s a great thing how the entire board of the Town Of Islip has participated in the concerns of the RCA and this is a perfect example of that.
For years, Ronkonkoma has been overlooked as a community, today Ronkonkoma is back on the map! “Let’s Save The Neighborhood” a quote Steven says often of his childhood town.

In speaking with Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt this week, The Ronkonkoma Civic Association has been informed that the Islip Town Board voted unanimously to approve a $200,000.00 streetscape project for Johnson Avenue between Sycamore Avenue and Pond Road. The plan will include tree plantings, some sidewalk improvements, asthetic upgrades and perhaps some lamp posts. Trish also wrote a letter to New York State asking for additional funds to try to increase the number from $200,000.00 upward. As for the $200,000.00, it will be available in a few months at which time Trish will be reaching out to the Ronkonkoma Civic Association (RCA-ISLIP) where she will come back to the table and help with design ideas.
In early February 2013, Larry Farrell (RCA-ISLIP Board Member) presented a proposal he wrote to Tom Croci (Town Of Islip Supervisor) named “The Main Street Project” which outlined the need for an improved identity including a ”Main Street” Plan. This plan was also presented in January 2013 to the Lakeland Fire Department Commissioners and RCA-ISLIP members with a high level of acceptance and enthusiasm. The hard work, dedication and shared vision of the RCA-ISLIP over the past 2 years showed the town board that Ronkonkoma-Islip residents care for and will stand up for their community. The RCA board is thankful to the Islip Town board for their continued support.

Tritec Real Estate will be presenting their already town approved plan.
This is the time to learn the facts of this HUGE Greater Ronkonkoma Project.
The Ronkonkoma Civic Association (RCA-ISLIP) held the largest meeting (2.25.13) in it’s 2 year history. New memberships jumped and the room was buzzing with concern of a project this community knew very little about. Residents were there to attend the presentation on the upcoming Ronkonkoma Hub Project and the presentation from the MTA LIRR on their Double Track Project.
Many people right next to the tracks are affected, while the entire community could be affected by the rail crossing at Ocean Ave.
The RCA-ISLIP board will be meeting with Tritec, the Brookhaven developer to discuss topics for the RCA’s next meeting.
As part of ongoing Suffolk County Emergency Preparedness Drills. Suffolk County will be using the Connetquot High School grounds for their drill on Saturday February 23, 2013.
Originally dedicated in 1963, today Connetquot High School serves a population of more than 2,000 students from the communities of Bohemia, Oakdale, and Ronkonkoma. A comprehensive high school dedicated to superior outcomes for all students, Connetquot High School affords its students a diverse course offering providing a wide variety of educational opportunities in the arts, humanities, math, science, and technology. The majority of Connetquot High School students graduate with regents diplomas and approximately ninety percent of graduates go on to higher education.
The RCA-ISLIP is holding their monthly meeting this coming Monday at 7pm in the Ronkonkoma Middle School auditorium. We are planning to have the MTA LIRR spokespeople do a presentation on the first of the upcoming projects for our area. (MTA LIRR Double Track, Suffolk County Water Sewage Plant & The Ronkonkoma-Brookhaven Downtown Hub Project)
The MTA LIRR will present their plans and then meet with people to address their individual concerns in the lobby afterward.
We (RCA-ISLIP & The Town Of Islip) are scheduled to meet with Tritec (Hub Developer) regarding the proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in early March and hope to have them at our meeting later that month.
Please post any suggestions on this page prior to the meeting…
